Total Driver - Corporate Case Study - Southcorp Wines...

When contacted by Southcorp Wines to investigate and initiate a Driver Development program the following initiatives were taken:

The following information was reviewed:

Accident statistics.

Car park incidents and driver habits.

Drivers journeys were taken into consideration, distance travelled, city, metropolitan and highway driving conditions and Drivers schedules.

Maintenance reports, fuel consumption and tyre costs per kilometre were assessed.

Drivers were selected for a real time on road assessment, circumstance and conditions that represented the norm of all fleet vehicles.

Road rules and general knowledge assessment were conducted.

Once the information had been collated a Driver Development program was designed and implemented.

The program had the following attributes in addition to our Driver development program:

Vehicle maintenance and housekeeping, what to leave in the car, what to take out, injuries that are caused by U.F.O.s( Unsecured Flying Objects.)

Participants were required to undertake an inspection of the vehicle, be able to check tyre pressures and inspect and acknowledge wear of the tyre to legal limits, understand fundamentals of tyre changing.

Technology familiarisation, steering, seating and posture techniques. Issues causing fatigue, identifying fatigue early and combating fatigue.

Mirror adjustment, how to get 360 degrees vision around the vehicle, eliminate blindspots and using the mirrors for reversing and parking.

Eye sight, learning to drive using peripheral vision.

Driving skills consisted of:

The effects of steering and accelerating to change direction of the motor vehicle.

Braking and avoidance skills and techniques, ABS familiarisation.

Steering techniques, SRS illustration.

Reading and relating to the road conditions

Planning the trip from the next hazard ahead to the ETA.

Eye and vision exercises to lift vision whilst driving, identifying hazard detection.

Driving techniques to reduce fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance costs and driving for passenger comfort.

Following distance and variables that affect this.

Vehicle manoeuvrability in confined and parking environments.

In addition to this specifically designed program, Southcorp Wines were offered a training support program that monitors participants application of training knowledge and skills acquisition on the road in their environment. The advantage of this program is that it allows management to monitor the driving habits of their employees to prevent accident potential behaviour. P.O.A. for this package.
